Nudes » Anatomically Functional Nudes
"By the time I had painted 'Mimi Scherb' in 1970 I had developed a way of underpainting and establishing the figure that resulted in an anatomically functional nude, a figure that is not frozen into its position on the canvas but looks as though it could move about and take other postions. Painted on a life-size scale and unidealized, these anatomically functional nudes speak to the function and beauty of the individual body in shape and color. A whole set of expressive possibilities came about for me when I could relate a specific model's true proportions with the way the model actually appeared."
